Should a Mole Be Removed? Not all moles have to be removed! Some people prefer moles removing for aesthetic or cosmetic purposes because of the position of the nevi in more delicate or exposed parts of the body. But even so, no intervention should be undergone before a precise medical investigation and the analysis of the potential scarring risk. There are also medical conditions that require moles removing, and this happens with certain dark body areas that resemble the stages that precede skin cancer or melanoma. This being said, the surgical procedure is compulsory and the only viable treatment for health preservation. Any patient who is to follow a moles removing treatment will go through three different stages. Betadine or alcohol will be used to disinfect the area, because this previous cleaning eliminates the bacteria on the skin surface. Then, the doctor will apply some anesthetic to reduce the blood flow and numb the tissues. Lidocaine is often preferred for such interventions, but the patient has to be tested for a potential allergic reaction to this anesthetic. The last measure to be taken in the preparatory stage of moles removing is the protection of the skin surrounding the treated area with some kind of material. There are several ways of moles removing corresponding to different dermatological-surgical procedures: cauterization, laser therapy and excision represent the three main choices. There are lots of factors that influence the mode of intervention and the location of the mole, its depth and size represent the main ones to require the doctor’s attention. Excisions are sometimes accompanied by stitches when the cut is deep, and such wounds may require some extra care and medical monitoring during the healing period. Regardless of how you get the moles removed, it is absolutely necessary to apply some antibiotics in order to eliminate the infection threat. After moles removing, laboratory samples will be taken to analyze the cellular structure to detect or eliminate the suspicion of skin cancer. In case stitches have been used, you’ll need to see your doctor in seven or ten days for their removal. Moreover, the dermatologist will ask you to come to regular medical appointments for check ups and investigations. Make sure you don’t neglect skincare. Any moles that change in time are a threat and an alarm signal that should not be ignored or left to pass unnoticed. ——————————
